Cancer Eye

The cancer affects the conjunctiva, the nictitating membrane (third eyelid) or the actual eyelids. It is most common in cattle with non-pigmented eyelids. It is aggravated by UV light and can develop rapidly.

If detected early when changes or small nodules appear on the third eyelid, the eyelid can be surgically removed by your veterinarian. In bad cases, when the growth has been left , it may necessitate the removal of the whole eye. In the later stages of the disease, animal welfare becomes an issue and animals should not be kept until the cancer has spread through the body or has started to affect the animal's well being and comfort
