Cancer-eye in cattle is a relatively common disease.
If you are buying, selling or otherwise mixing cows of various origins, there are a few things to keep in mind...
Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) is a well-recognised cause of reproductive loss in cows, reduced growth rates and occasionally fatal disease in young stock. It causes diarrhoea, mouth ulcers, weight loss or reduced growth rates and an outbreak may take several weeks to spread through the mob. The virus however, is also immunosuppressive and thus animals particularly calves, can succumb to secondary disease such as bronchopneumonia and parasitism.
